Lorin
told us that a science class at Punahou made herbarium specimens of
ferns every year. Laua'e didn't start showing up in the
collections until the late 1800s. So, perhaps laua'e is a
more recent historic introduction to Hawaii. He told us, he
showed us, and he put us to work, and we learned to treasure the
special places of Hawaii.
