Chinatown
in New York City was and is a conclave of immigrant Chinese trying to
survive, assimilate and integrate into the surrounding American
culture, yet still preserving the culture and customs of their
ancestors. Immigrants from China pass through daily; some stay for
generations, others flit through in their rush to pursue the American
Dream, their passage sending ripples across the flow of time.
We
immigrated here, or were born here. We played, attended school, dated,
married, gave birth, divorced, re-married, died... in every facet of
human existence.
These are
our memories of mid 20th Century in NY Chinatown.
